Twilight looked at the sign “World Strider’s, Fine Mareoccan Dining and Goods.”
“Is this the place?” she said to Applejack
“Sure is. We apples have always gotten our spices from World Strider’s. World Strider was good to us; gave us credit when times were hard. That’s why they get Zap Apple Jam to sell too. Them’s as loyal to us, we’re loyal to them.” Applejack pushed open the door with her muzzle and went inside, with Twilight following behind.
An assault of odd smells assaulted her, thousands of spices pickles and other aromatics. A dark red stallion wearing a caftan and skullcap was sitting behind the counter, but as soon as he saw them he jumped up.
“Ah, Mistress Jack! So good to see you again. And, my word the Princess. How honored I am to have you grace my humble shop.” he said in a heavy accent. The stallion bowed deeply.
“Hey Mr. Strider. Just here to drop off your Zap Apple Jam, and pick up some things.”
“Of course, of course.” World Strider clapped his hooves together. A burly stallion, wearing a fez appeared and took the jam from Applejack, then disappeared into the back.
“And now, how can I serve you?” the stallion said
“Well, I need some nutmeg some Cassia cinnamon…”
World Strider frowned “Forgive me, we all out of cassia, just have softstick”
Applejack made a sucking sound “Just softstick darn. I mean it tastes bettern’ the cassia but y’all need four times as much to get the same impact and that stuff can get expensive.”
“Don’t worry I give you good price”
“Okay fine” well that was all I really needed.
“Maybe I interest you in some horse gram? Fresh off boat from Coltkata.”
“Well Granny DOES like that for her bean soup, but…”
“I know I know, no black ones. I have cleaned. He yelled into the back. “Bean Counter, clean a couple pounds of gram for Mistress Jack.”
“Well, I don’t wanna put you through any trouble.”
“No trouble, we need clean anyway. Granny not the only one who say black horse gram give her wind.”
At this point Twilight’s stomach rumbled. Embarrassed, she said “Sorry I skipped breakfast”
Strider looked shocked. “Well we must correct this” He clapped his hooves again and the burly pony reappeared “Silver Platter, food for the Princess and Mistress Jack”. The burly pony nodded and again disappeared. World Strider then ushered them to one of the small tables in the restaurant portion of the building. “The food should be here shortly”
Not having anything else to do, Twilight decided to ask the question that had been bothering her
“World Strider, I’ve met ponies from Mareocco before and you don’t sound quite like them.”
“Ah, you have sharp ears princess. My wife is Mareoccan, as is Silver, but I myself am from Marekesh.”
Any further line of questions was interrupted by Silver Platter, who came bearing a platter with a pair of tangines on it. He put the tangines on the table, bowed, and them whipped off the lids, to reveal two steaming portions of couscous. Both Applejack and Twilight grabbed their forks and began to dig in.

Their bellies now full, the two of them leaned back and smiled. “Thank you that was delicious” said Twilight.
Silver platter smiled “We live to serve” He them presented a small plate with pink, yellow and green jelly like cubes, dusted with powdered sugar. “ “Lokum?”
